Gravity Affects Your Body

If you had been a member of the crew on the 84 day Skylab Space Mission, you would have had a first-hand experience on how the body reacts in a gravity-free world. All of the astronauts while on that mission grew taller, some of them almost two inches taller. Why? Without the pull of gravity the body loosens up and the distance between each disc in the spinal column expands slightly.

Here on earth, we all know how important the force of gravity is in keeping our feet on the ground. In fact, the whole body is affected by the force. Man as a biped leads a precarious mechanical existence. The pulls of gravity, the positions and postures of his occupation, along with the physical strains of work and play, almost inevitably result in the development of spinal problems that lead to a disturbance of the nervous system.

If one were to take a pendulum, suspended from a frame, and then tilt the frame, the pendulum will swing toward the low side. This is what happens to the spine when there is uneven muscle tension and misaligned spinal bones.

If your spine is out of proper alignment, your health will suffer, due to pressure on the spinal nerves. This may also cause you to have back and other pains. Uneven tilting of the spinal bones will also cause a progressive deterioration of the spinal discs.

Gravity is a force we may use to strengthen our spine or it may be our biggest enemy. When the spine is out of alignment health problems will occur. Protect your health by having your spine checked regularly by your chiropractor.
